SANDTIQUE FEATURES VINTAGE ART IN OVER 40 ANTIQUE PRINT CATEGORIES

Antique Animal Prints

ANTIQUE ANIMAL PRINTS   (Some Cute but Many Ferocious)

Many of our Antique Animal Prints are over 200 years old. Back then many of the animals pictured had just been discovered.  A Botanist or Biologist would be allowed to accompany the ships crew on a voyage to a new country or island.  They would gather their specimens, draw pictures of them and bring them back home so that antique animal prints could be created and bound into books by authors such as Goldsmith and Buffon.

Some of the antique pictures in these vintage animal prints could not be considered 100% life-like. My favorite is a hippo that that is presented in an antique woodcut that appears to have human features including lips. Many of the animals featured in this vintage art no longer exist. Antique animal prints allow us to know how, now extinct, Dodo Birds and Albatross as well as hundreds ov other now extinct animals looked like.

ANTIQUARIAN PRINTS  (Things People Used Centuries Ago)

SANDTIQUE'S prints of Antiquity feature relics, weapons and tools from centuries ago.  Keep in mind that the prints  that we are selling are in themselves rare antiques so that the relics portray images of over one hundred years ago. Check out our  Hefner's "Costumes, Art &  Armor" Chromolithographs. These are some of the finest chromoliths that I have sold.

Also presented on our E-bay antique print website are our copper engraved Sicilian coins from 1697. These 314 year old original antiquarian engravings show Roman and Greek coins that were found left over from ancient times. The coins provided an historical picture of which coins (usually with the head of the Roman emperor featured) were found in each province of Sicily.

ANTIQUE ARCHITECTURAL PRINTS (How Did They Build These Buildings?)

You have to give credit to the architects such as Ceasar Daly and A.W.N. Pugin who designed the ancient buildings that withstood weather, wars, and design changes. We attempt to offer antique prints that can be framed and hung for people to enjoy as inexpensive antique wall art. Look at our "Mansions of England" by Nash.

Picture an office in an Architects office with a montage of our antique architecturual prints or Victorian prints being featured. We have not done our job unless most visitors entering that room approach the vintage print for a closeup view of the vintage art.

VINTAGE BIRD PRINTS      (Birds of Prey & Birds Preyed On)

Many of these rare bird prints are very life-like. The most beautiful are the hand-colored engravings that took hours to produce by Old Master print makers and would be impossible to create at modern wage rates. The detail is fine and you can see every feather in some cases. This is truly original vintage art at its best and just a small step below original oil painting.

We are proud to offer over 500 unique antique bird prints from artists such as William Lizars, William Jardine, Naumann, Bowdler Sharpe, Reverend Morris and Count Buffon.   We even have a couple by Wilson, Audubon and Gould. My personal favorites are the large fine chromolithographs by Studer.

Hand-Colored Lithograph

ANTIQUE BOTANICAL PRINTS

ANTIQUE BOTANICAL PRINTS                (Original  Art  That Lives On)

Vintage Botanical Prints - Flowers, Leaves, Fruit, Herbs, Vegetables & Trees and also antique fern prints - Many you can eat but be careful as some are poisonous. The herb prints that we feature date back to 1583 and pictured the "drugs of the time". Some of the old master artists were also pharmacists and made their own "drugs" from available herbs. Some of these antique medical prints are discussed below.

Decorating with antique botanical prints by artists like Duhamel is inexpensive yet very effective.  Picture your kitchen with a grouping of four herb prints from the 18th century.  Anyone entering your kitchen for the first time will be drawn to view the antique botanical prints close up.  Of course, you will choose the colors of the vintage art prints and the matting and frames to match the style and colors of your kitchen. My personal favorites are the antique fruit prints. Check out our Weinmann Mezzotints.

ANTIQUE BUTTERFLY PRINTS  (Play an Important Role In the Food Life Cycle)

It is hard to believe that they were once caterpillars. We feature Beautiful Antique Butterfly Prints - but caterpillar prints - not so nice. A montage of 2-4 prints would enliven your bathroom.

Buy this vintage art for the species or because they match a color scheme.  Many of these victorian pictures  appear so lifelike, you can picture one flitting away, well almost. After being locked away in a dark book for over one hundred years, these antique butterfly prints are now ready to provide joy to the new owner.  These vintage prints would look great in a bath decor.

VINTAGE CHILDREN'S PRINTS  (At Play or At Sleep, Our Prints Are Cute)

It is interesting that many of the children's books published between 1880 and 1900 were illustrated with chromolithographs. These "chromos" today, especially the ones printed by McLaughlin, have become important vintage art pieces in their own right. A grouping of two or six hanging in your grandchild's bedroom would be a nice decorative touch. Vintage children's prints make great "Antique Wall Art".

SANDTIQUE offers dozens of colorful children's chromolithographs featuring animals, birds, children at play and babies. We feature some of the most famous of the child art artists including Cicily Barker, Edward Detmold and Elizabeth Gordon. The most collectable are the Victorian prints.

ANTIQUE CITY SCENES  (Before the Time of Cars & Trucks)

Usually copper engravings or steel engravings, these antique pictures show us how our cities looked over one hundred years ago. Interestingly, most of the buildings are still here with us today. The level of definition of this vintage art medium produces an "Antique Wall Art" piece that looks great from a distance but even better close up.

A gift of an antique  city scene steel engravings of the city where a person lives or was born is thoughtful, personal and will be cherished by the recipients for the rest of their lives. Most importantly, they will remember who gave it to them.  We will not tell if you buy it for yourself.

POCHOIR COSTUME PRINTS

ANTIQUE COSTUME PRINTS  (Not Only Beautiful, but Historical)

Antique costume prints without color leave much to be desired.  Most of our over 200 costume prints (on E-Bay) are chromolithographs with colorful beauty  that has lasted for centuries. Usually, antique costume prints are specific to the country, social class and time of dress. For example, "French Regal Costumes from the 17th Century".

A perfect, meaningful gift is a set of prints from the country of origin of the person receiving the gift. With many costumes included on one print, as pictured on the left, you will find yourself stopping and checking out a different specific costume every time you pass by the print. SANDTIQUE is most proud of our Gallois Pochoir Prints which are as bright as vintage prints can be.

COUNTRY SCENES  (This Particular Outdoor Scene is Ancient)

In a time before television and magazines, engraved prints such as these were the sole visual communication of specific outdoor scenes in specific countries. These Victorian prints bring back fond memories of the "Old Country".

On E-Bay SANDTIQUE offers almost 300 unique scenes from such rare publications as "Picturesque America", "Picturesque Canada" and "Picturesque Europe" and illustrated by such famous artists as William Bartlett and Perkins. My favorite are the beautiful antique architecture prints included in Morris's chromolithographs of British castles.

ANTIQUE COUNTRY SCENE PRINT

DELAFOSSE PRINT

DECORATIVE PRINTS  (Designs from the Past Included in Today's Setting)

Our antique design prints and vintage decorative prints include such famous designers as Delafosse and Waring. They were the basis of the recommendations of the "Interior Decorators" of the mid 1800's.

It is interesting that today they still make beautiful wall hangings with a lot of "personality". Can you imagine two of these antique design prints framed and hung in your dining room?  Interior decorators are some of SANDTIQUE'S best customers.

EGYPTIAN PRINTS  (Unique, Recognisable  Form of Art)

These antique Egyptian prints bring back an art form from past milleniums.  Most Egyptian Art prints include reference to the Egyptian Gods and Egyptian Mythology.  Intersting are the vintage  pictures of half man/half animal or half bird  beings. Much of this vintage art was found in the pyramids in Egypt.

Make sure you check out our huge chromolithographs from "THE BOOK OF THE DEAD"

ANTIQUE EGYPTIAN PRINTS

FASHION PRINTS  (Fine Fashion From the Mid 1800's)

These antique fashion prints were published in periodic magazines such as Godey's, Peterson's, Graham's and others. Usually, a full year of monthly magazines was bound into a book.

These were steel engravings that were Hand Colored to portray the clothing fashions of the times. Usually picturing two or more young women together, the rarer prints featured men and children. We have some of those antique fashion prints available too.

Hand-Colored Lithograph

Vintage Prints - FINE ART

FINE ART PRINTS  (A Chance to Own an Old Master at a Fraction of the Price)

Antique Fine Art prints were first developed so that more people could enjoy the artist's work. Engravers were hired to reproduce the colored painting into a black and white engraving. These were then sold separately or more often bound into books. After more than one hundred years, many of the books fell apart but the prints remained.

We offer these beautiful, fine engravings that include just about any subject you can imagine.  SANDTIQUE offers antique fine art prints of many of the most famous painters including Rubens & Rembrandt. You have to check out our dozens of our steel engraving prints of beautiful women. (Click Here)

FISH PRINTS  (Too Colorful To Be Hidden Underwater)

The best known artists specializing in antique  fish prints were Jardine, Cuvier, Denton and Bloch.  It is difficult for me to call these vintage fish prints beautiful but some featuring tropical fish certainly are. Virtually all the antique fish prints that SANDTIQUE features are chromolithographs or are hand coloured engravings.

A grouping of colorful antique fish prints would brighten up the wall of a study or den. A pair of vintage prints make a wonderful, meaningful gift for your favorite angler.

Hand-Colored Lithograph

Antique Furniture Print

FURNITURE PRINTS  (How Long Did This Furniture Take to Make ?)

These vintage prints of furniture and fixtures picture some of the finest antique pieces of furniture in the world. Much of the antiqarian furniture is currently housed in museums and palaces in Europe. It would be virtually impossible to replace these pieces of vintage art, mainly because of current labor costs.

The future of these rare prints would be enhanced by spending the rest of their lives hanging on the wall of your dining room.

GREEK & ROMAN PRINTS (Before Clothing was Invented)

Antique Greek Art is one of the favorite subjects used in decorating.  SANDTIQUE features "The Works of Canova", that takes actual Greek Statues and converts them into fine vintage engravings.

Included in our E-Bay are offerings by serious artists and editors such as Flaxman and Millingen. Many of these antique prints were in "Greek Line Art" a technique which was developed by Flaxman in the early 1820's.

The subjects of these antique prints were the various Greek Gods & Godesses as well as terrecotta pottery from ancient Greece. A set of these would look very beautiful in your living room. We were lucky to obtain rare prints at low prices and now pass the savings on to you.

HERALDRY PRINTS  (Can You Find Your Name & Family Crest Here?)

Many of these heraldry coats of arms date back to 1778 and are 233 years old.  Most originated in Europe and each symbol in the coat of arms has specific meaning.  For those that research their ancestry, such a print should be very unique find. Think seriously about buying one as a truly thoughtful and meaningful gift. This is one present that is not likely to be re-gifted.

We currently have more than 200 heraldry coats of arms and tartans for sale in our E-Bay store. In most cases, we have only one family crest per family available - hurry before someone buys your specific name.

Antique Heraldry Print

ANTIQUE HISTORICAL PRINTS

HISTORICAL PRINTS  (Allowed Images to be Passed On

Antique historical prints, produced centuries ago and passed down from generation to generation, allowed images of historical events to be available to us today. I cannot help but think about where these prints have been during so many years. Based on their luck to dates, it seams likely that these prints will outlast all of us.

Hanging in your den or family room, these antique historical prints will become a topic of conversation and will draw visitors to them asking questions. You may not afford an original oil painting but anyone can afford to invest in original hand-colored steel engravings. There are not two the same. You can find additional historical prints in our antique civll war prints category.

HUMOR and SATIRE PRINTS  (Funny Pages From the Past)

Our Antique Satire Prints are the comic strips or funny papers of the past. Well known personages such as Hogarth, Leech, Cruikshank, Phiz, and Rowlandson were the Jay Lenos of their day. They poked fun of the politicians of their day. Someone should bring back Punch.  It is interesting that politicians have not changed much and the topics of the cartoons are very similar to politics today.

Our newest addition is Doyle 's "HB - SKETCHES" Lithograph Antique Satire Prints.

Check out our Humor & Antique Satire Prints now.

ANTIQUE SATIRE PRINTS

ANTIQUE INSECT PRINTS

INSECT PRINTS  (No, My  Prints Don't Bite)

These are the ugliest prints that we offer for sale.  They are so ugly, they are cute. Interestingly, antique insect prints, especially the ones featuring bees, are our fastest selling prints.

Our favorites are the Edward Detmold  lithograph prints.  They are big sellers for boy's bedrooms. The scarier, the better. Check out our antique insect prints today.

MARINE PRINTS  (Battleships to Yachts)

Most of these antique prints pictured battle scenes from past wars. Another favorite topic had to do with shipwrecks and ships sinking. However, one of our most popular subjects is pirates.  A ship print is very appropriate to frame and hang in a den or family room.

This boat won't cost an arm and a leg to maintain - antique marine prints are great gifts for the boatowner, marine enthusiast or war buff.

Antique Marine Print

Antique Medical Prints

MEDICAL PRINTS  (Is There a Skeleton in Your Closet ?)

Some of these antique medical prints  may be going too far.  Remember, some of them  were produced  at about the same time that they were inventing surgery.  Would not a set of these drawings enhance the bare walls in a doctor's office?  We have  bones, nerves, organs , muscles and more.  I believe that it is against the law to sell body parts. - Oh well...

Many of our antique medcal prints from the 17th & 18th centuries were rescued from books that also had pictures of various herbs.  In those days, doctors were botanical experts since herbs were the pharmaceuticals of the time. "Take five sprigs of parsely and go to bed".

MUSICAL PRINTS  (Antique Instruments and Old Musicians)

Very few of these ancient musical instruments remain today. It would be interesting to hear an orchestra playing these instruments.  We specialize in musical instruments by Hipkins.  These prints are stippled chromolithographs and are some of the finest chromos we have for sale.

These are a must for that music room. If you are looking for an appropiate gift for your child's music teacher, look no further. Interestingly, our Hipkins antique musical instrument prints on E-Bay are at the top of SANDTIQUE's most viewed website pages.

Antique Musical Instrument Print

Antique Native American Print

NATIVE AMERICAN PRINTS  (The Earliest Americans)

There must be plenty of collectors of antique Native American prints because we get so many questions about them. We offer prints of Indian chiefs and such activities as buffalo hunts.

A couple of these prints would be perfect in your den or family room. Check out our antique Native American prints category.  Just click above.

PORTRAIT PRINTS  (Can You Guess Who This Sillouette Is ?)

This is one of our most popular vintage art categories. Before photographs, engraved or lithographed prints were very important in capturing how our forefathers looked. Put in your last name into our store search engine and you never know, you may find the image of a long lost relative.

SANDTIQUE features about 600 antique portrait prints in its E-Bay print shop. Additional antique portrait prints are available in our antique religious prints, antique civil war prints and andtique historical prints categories.  By the way, the sillouette to the right is George Washington.

George Washington Print

RELIGIOUS PRINTS  (Many of These Chromos are Spiritually Delightful)

The original prints were antique religious prints in subject and many were bound in bibles of the middle ages.  SANDTIQUE  features "Old Master" artists such as Scheuchzer, Dore and Galle who successfully told biblical stories through their engraved antique religious prints. Our later antique religious prints are brightly colored using the print methodology of chromolithography.

SANTIQUE also offers for sale bible leaves from ancient bibles from the 1500's and 1600's.  These antique religious prints are beautiful in themselves and are meant to be framed and hung.

Our oldest antique religious prints are copper engravings by Philips Galle depicting David's trials & tribulations. They were printed in 1575 and are 436 years old.

Christopher Columbus Print

TRAVEL & EXPLORATION  (How Lands Were Discovered)

Our Travel & Exploration Prints describing the exploratory voyages of Columbus, Cook and Roscoe are featured in our print store. They picture the scenery that they saw and the people that they met.  Many times, these were the first ever recorded information concerning these newly discovered lands and people.

In many cases they also include prints of birds and animals. Most of these living creatures had never been seen before back home. Reproduced usually from rough sketches, some of these antique exploration prints are quite comical.

WAR PRINTS  (Mostly Civil War Prints)

Our "War Prints" deal mainly in battle scenes, portraits of generals and admirals, and maps of the battles.  Most of the 200 plus war prints that we offer are antique Civil War Prints but also check out our "War of Independence" and other battle scenes currently in our collection. We also offer a rare collection of World War I Maps that depict battle strategies for World War I.

Featured are prints compiled by Headley, Greeley, Harper, Abbott, Lossing and my favorite, Duyckinck. Two to four of these antique Civil War prints would create a focal point in that den, family room or man-cave

J.P. Morgan Bookplate

RARE BOOKS  (Will Add Value To Your Library)

From time to time, we obtain a book that is too complete or too valuable, or too rare to break into prints.  This section features those books that we have decided to sell as antique books, not antique prints.

Antique Maps

RARE MAPS  (Many of the Countries Are Now Obsolete)

SANDTIQUE specializes in antiquarian prints but also sells rare maps, many of which are hand-colored. Check us out and take advantage of our topical inexperience. Some of the antique maps we offer for sale originate from the following atlases:

RAYNAL BONNE - 1780

MIGEON MAPS (With Cartouche) - 1865
